With music, dance and images people create powerful ways to express and share feelings and meanings that are impossible to put into words - also sometimes making the verbal expression more powerful. Human creativity is about innovation, having fun, provoking thoughts, surprising, touching, moving, learning, remembering and forgetting (just to name a few things). I am interested in creativity in all styles and genres and the mixes of them. And if the mood is there I'll dance to anything with or without a rhythm.
My name is Minna. I have chosen the name "whirlthedancefloor" for my imeem page because I love dancing. I love it when people dance and I love to dance. I am best inspired by live music and friends who dance with me. So that was the first thing that came to my mind when I created this page, I thought I would dedicate it to dance. Well so far I have not had time really to work on that and after all dance is something that goes on in real life, I guess...
Anyhow I started to like imeem a lot and I log in to listen to all kinds of music - you can see a glimpse of that from the variety of styles my playlists represent. If you visit my imeem friends pages and the groups... you'll get some picture of the variety.
I have some education in classical music so I listen to a variety of classical music, just to mention some key words: opera, sopranos, baroque, piano. I just melt when I listen to some piano works I used to play when I was in music school - bringing vivid memories of the music deep inside. Unfortunately I can not play anymore, it is totally rusty :) I am forever grateful to my parents and my teachers who made it possible for me to experience music through my fingertips.
I grew up listening to my moms favorites in the 1970's, international bands like Abba, Beatles.. She liked Elvis. Eurovision contests every year on TV :) and our local pop and dance music of which I do not have samples but music is melodic, often with touch of melancholia. Music for children was mostly folk and traditional songs, also religious music was taught. We sang these nice songs in the school choir. One of the classics we sang was Finlandia by Jean Sibelius. That song is very beautiful and it always touches my heart when i hear it.
Rock is the music of my generation where I grew up - punk and metal - strong, loud, dark, anarchist, wild. Something to really take my breath away and drive me wild :) In our local music school, studied some very talented kids who became rock and folk musicians. My playlists include music by some bands that come from my part of the world - Varttina, Nightwish, Elakelaiset. I hope to have time to present some more in the future...
Early on I also began to like music that was not very local - latin, hip hop, disco, ambient, world... all kinds of music, and dancing all styles :)) and nowadays it is so easy to have music with you all the time everywhere. So I am one of those people wearing headphones almost all the time :) not really because I live in middle of nowhere and nature is very beautiful here, we have great forests and many lakes - in the summer there is always something to listen to and in the winter the quietness, the crystal white snow all around is wonderful.
